A coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Justice and Equity, CCSO-JE, has called on Nigerians to fully cooperate with the Police for effective policing of the country with a view to stopping threats to the security of lives and properties.

This is even as the Coalition urged the Inspector General of Police, IGP Muhammad Adamu to justify his tenure extension by President Muhammadu Buhari by ensuring that criminal elements are flushed out of the country.
Briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja, Chief Convener of CCSO-JE, Comrade Olayemi Success, said cooperation with the Police has become necessary “bearing in mind that the security of all is the responsibility of all.”
While attributing the IGP’s tenure extension to his excellent performance, Olayemi however, charged him to “settle down and discharge his duties more excellently well to justify the confidence of well-meaning Nigerians and President Muhammadu Buhari in him.”
He pointed out that the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has “actually experienced tremendous development under the current IGP.”
According to him, the CCSO-JE is identifying with the Police chief because of his adherence to the rule of law, proper equipment of the Police for smooth operations, prioritising the welfare of policemen and women in the country.
Olayemi added that “the long-awaited community policing has become reality through the genuine commitment of the IGP to people-oriented policing in Nigeria, the fear of relating and sharing useful information with police as it used to have completely eliminated as police under this IGP now enjoys confidence via the simplicity, friendliness and accessibility of the police top echelon.”
He further listed the efforts of Operation Puff Harder in flushing out criminals from their hideouts and black spots for the purpose of making every part of the country safe, the recent promotion of over 100, 000 Policemen and women to boost their morale for effective performance and others as some of the recent achievements of Adamu.
The CCSO-JE convener, however, frowned at the “unverifiable news in one of the online media, alleging that the IGP bribed his way” to get a tenure extension, describing it as “very funny, unreasonable and unprofessional as the purported news is empty without any fact or evidence.”
