Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has admitted he will miss several of his key players for Friday’s international friendly against Cameroon but enthused that it is an opportunity for him to test some new players.
While downplaying the import of getting victory from the game billed to hold in Austria, the Franco-German tactician added that he would love to see how other players take up the gauntlet in the absence of the key men.
Rohr added that he will use the  game in Vienna to test the balance of his side and see new players in action.
The three-time African champions are scheduled to play the Indomitable Lions at Weiner-Neustadt Stadium, Vienna on June 4, as Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) aim to keep the Eagles in shape ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers starting in September.
The Eagles last defeated Cameroon 3-2 in the round of 16 of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, after they also earlier stopped The Lions from qualifying for the 2018 Fifa World Cup, but Rohr acknowledged that Friday’s game will be a different ball game.
However, with Samuel Chukwueze, Samuel Kalu, Joe Aribo, Leon Balogun, Kenneth Omeruo, Kevin Akpoguma and Zaidu Sanusi all ruled out through injury, Rohr admitted he will have to put his trust in many rookies and a handful will surely get to play during the game.
Rohr told cafonline.com: “This friendly against Cameroon is an interesting game because we are going to have some of the new players, since some of our regular players will not be available due to injuries.
“I’ve seen that they have a list of 28 players, but I’m hopeful all our players listed would be able to come for the match. I hope we are going to have a good weather in Vienna for this match. It is a big test game and an opportunity to test the new players.
“Of course, we are not going to play for the result against Cameroon in Austria, but it’s an opportunity to see our boys and see something different with our systems against a very good team that will host the next AFCON.”
