THE Federal government has promised to sent in intervention funds to assist traders adversely affected by a fire outbreak at the Katsina Central Market.
A delegation led by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Federation, Abubakr Malami, said the whole country is saddened by the ugly inferno at the market.
“President Muhammadu Buhari is sympathizing with the government and people of Katsina State over the incident yesterday that led to wanton destruction of goods at the market.
“President Buhari received the news of the incident with a heavy heart. He is with you at this time of grief. He is together with the government in an effort to avert this ugly menace and to see where the Federal government can intervene”.
The Minister announced a donation of five million naira from Khadi Malami foundation based in Kebbi State as part of contributions to alleviate the loss of the traders at the market.
In a swift reaction, Governor Aminu Bello Masari thanked the President and good people of Nigeria for sympathizing with the Katsina State government.
He said it was unfortunate that the fire outbreak has created massive havoc hence the state government will collaborate with relevant bodies to improve on the market facilities as well as providing succour to adversely affected traders at the market.
Also bearing his mind, Chairman, Katsina State Traders Association, Alhaji, Mujtaba Lamis Gafar wants urgent intervention from Governments to ameliorate the sufferings of traders affected by the burning down of the market on Monday.
He told newsmen on the sidelines of the visit to the market by some Ministers yesterday that over 1000 shops were affected by the incidents.
The delegation includes Ministers for Humanitarian and Disaster Management, Sadiya Umar, Intero, Rauf Aregbeshola, Aviation, Hadi Serika, Police Affairs, Muhammadu Maigairi Dingyadi, SSA to President on Media, Mallam Garba Shehu.
