GOVERNOR Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has solicited intervention from the Korean government to develop the agriculture sector, skills acquisition to enhance the emergence of small-scale entrepreneurs, and improved agricultural production of the State.
He made the appeal when he hosted the Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Kim Young Chae at the Katsina State Government’s lodge, Abuja.
The Governor observed that the Korean government has the capacity to provide the needed support that the State, Nigeria needs and in African countries in general.
Masari was particularly interested in the Korean support in the two major areas of Agriculture and skills acquisition through the provision of improved seeds, and farming equipment as well as training for the young men and women to become self-employed.
He, therefore, invited the Korean envoy to Katsina to see for himself the vast land and human resources for the possible support and collaboration with the State government.
Earlier, Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Kim Young Chae observed that farmers in Nigeria require constant support from the government to sustain Agricultural production.
According to him, it became necessary for the country to be self-dependence in food production, considering the abundant resources that the country has.
The envoy observed that going by the larger population of about two hundred million people, importation of food into the country does not speak well of the country’s image.
Kim Young Chae further explained that his country has a variety of improved seeds including Rice, cassava & maize that can be grown in Nigeria as well as other farm implements and machines at affordable prices.
While for the patronage of their products and services in Nigeria, Mr. Kim young said his country is also one of the major importers of cash crops, and assured more programs would be created for the Nigerian officials in Korea.
