National Association of Northern Nigerian Students, NANNS, has honoured the Chairman of the Nigeria Community Movement Party, NCMP, Comrade Ademola Babatunde Abidemi, as a goodwill ambassador, over what they described as his role towards promoting good governance, equity and the entrenchment of democracy in the country.
Leader of the delegation and the National Secretary of the Association, Ibrahim Isah Adamu, said the NCMP National Chairman was considered worthy of the award owing to his astuteness, promotion of gender equality, as well as ensuring democracy thrive in the country by making government at all levels accountable to their subjects.
He stated this during the presentation of the award to Comrade Ademola, at the NCMP National Secretariat in Abuja, yesterday.
According to the National Secretary; “We consider you worthy of this award owing to the role you have been playing so far in the country’s political landscape. You are dogged and astute, and always promoting gender equality.
“As a youth, you believed and always believe that the youths should rise and take their destiny into their own hands and that the era of the ‘old guards’ and their sit tight syndrome should be discarded if the youths know what is best for the country and the unborn generation.”
Adamu urged youths to be the driver of their destiny by not sitting on the fence and take proactive action at ensuring that the right leaders are elected into positions so as to foster developments, promote unity, as well as take the country to greater heights.
In his acceptance speech, said many Nigerians and youths alike put the blame of the rampant challenges the country faces on the past and current government but the majority put more blame on the current administration.
He maintained that the result of Nigeria’s downfall today as a nation is a function of pile up issues that had been neglected over six decades ago, and that is what the country is facing today.
“Every Nigerian must take responsibility, and fundamentally arise to change the narratives as a matter of urgency.
“I believe so much in the movement of the student’s communities because it is the only community where our sanity and sanctity of governance can quickly be recovered.
“I am currently working on a programme where all students leaders will gather and make paper review and contribution to how our elections should be conducted in Nigeria and the absolute reform of our electoral processes. This we will sponsor as a bill at the NASS for posterity’ sake,” he said.
He thanked the student body for recognizing his efforts all the way from the far north and enjoined them to gather support with an absolute commitment to the reality of creating a unique and totally different Nigeria from what past and present leaders have created over 60 years.
