A member of the National Assembly Mr. Pat Ifon, has charged youths to build capacities and show commitment to their jobs and careers.
Ifon who represents Eket Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives gave the charge when some beneficiaries of his job empowerment program paid him a courtesy call in Eket.
Ifon however regretted that some of his constituents rejected federal jobs he secured for them because they refused to leave their comfort zones for the jobs.
“I know people who gave excuses that they couldn’t leave their homes to work in Ibadan, yet they claim to be looking for jobs,” he said.
He admonished some of the beneficiaries to take their job seriously while praying to God to promote them and give them cause to celebrate unceasingly.
He disclosed that he has facilitated employment for 19 people in his constituents in federal establishments and promised to ensure that more would be secured for members of his constituents.
Ifon advised the youths to arm themselves with academic qualifications or skills ahead of the unforeseen openings.
“It is very good for people to arm themselves with academic qualifications or skills ahead of the unforeseen openings that are sure to come.
“If you had no qualifications, how would you have been qualified for the job when there were openings, this poses the need for one to be prepared academically or learn a trade.
“That is why opportunity must meet preparation for the gap to be bridged,” he added.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Dickson Clement, a staff of the University of Calabar, said the purpose of the visit was to thank the lawmaker for securing pensionable jobs for his constituents.
“What you have done for us has left a positive scar that will remain indelible in our lives and as long as God gives us the grace to breathe, we will remain appreciative to you Sir,” Clement said.
