NATIONAL Directorate of Employment, NDE, in Nasarawa State, has trained 50 women on spices production with a call on them to make use of the skill in order to become self-reliant.

State Coordinator of the organization, Alhaji Dauda Idris Wase, who disclosed this in Lafia, the state capital, during the graduation ceremony of the trainees, noted that the program was aimed at tackling unemployment and reducing youth restiveness as well as improving their standard of living.

He further explained that the training was also meant to teach the women the value and health properties of spices and also how to produce and package them for commercial use thereby making a living out of it.

“The program is in line with NDE’s mandate of training people, especially youths and women in different skills to make them self-reliant, in order to contribute to national development”

He said that the training was conducted in conjunction with the Office of the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dame Pauline Tallen, who mobilized most of the participants, and the NDE, who sponsored and financed the training.

“Spices are ingredients used to improve the taste of our foods which include Curry Powder, Complete Mix, Jollof Rice Spices, Fish Seasoning, Ginger Spices, Black Pepper Mix, etc”

“Spices are known to be rich in zinc (which boosts immunity), blood thinners, vitamins, and antioxidants, which are the natural elements”. he said.

Wase urged the beneficiaries to use the knowledge gained in order to become self-reliant and employers of labor, expressing the scheme’s readiness to collaborate with government, individuals, and other bodies in order to tackle youths and women’s restiveness in the country.

In a remark, the Chairperson of the occasion, Mrs. Elsie Monde, lauded the Federal Government for tackling youths and women’s restiveness through its various skills acquisition programs.

Responding, Halima Abubakar, a beneficiary, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries thanked NDE for the training and promised to be good ambassadors of the scheme.
