Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has urged  Bayelsans to emulate the selflessness of Jesus Christ to work for the common good of the state and humanity in general.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo made the call while delivering a goodwill message during the Christmas Carol of Seven Lessons organized by the Bayelsa Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in collaboration with the Bayelsa Classic Choir at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre in Yenagoa.
He noted that Christ placed emphasis on love, faith and sacrifice for the redemption of mankind, and therefore, stressed the need for the people to emulate his example by contributing to the development of the state.
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Deputy Governor, Mr. Doubara Atasi, Senator Ewhrudjakpo advised Bayelsans to be constructive in their criticism and see the task of developing the state as a collective responsibility.
He assured the people of the present administration’s determination to make an appreciable impact with its prosperity agenda through prudence and judicious application of scarce state resources.
According to the deputy governor, the Senator Douye Diri-led government has overcome its major teething challenges by the sheer grace of God and is poised to do all within its reach to move the state forward.
He expressed delight over the performance of the Bayelsa Classic Choir, saying it shows that the state is blessed with talents and promised to carry the Choir along in government religious activities.
His words: “Today Bayelsa is on a trajectory of prosperity and we are not mincing words in terms of what we mean by prosperity. Yes, what we are saying may appear hazy to some people but we are very clear about where we are taking Bayelsa to.
“Bayelsa State will be a better place if we all take responsibilities for our actions rather than pass blames as Adam and Eve did. Let us all imbibe the lessons of Christmas and work together for the good of our state.
“Don’t worry, the sun is rising on the prosperity government and I can assure you, sooner than later, you will be surprised as to what the prosperity government is going to do. The most important thing is that the prosperity government knows where we are going to.”
Delivering a welcome address, the Chaplain of Bayelsa Classic Choir, Venerable Ibaralanyon Theophilus,  said the choir has been projecting the image of the state in a positive light since its establishment.
Venerable Theophilus appreciated the Deputy Governor for his show of humility and love for the things of God and appealed for government’s support to make the annual activity a success.
The programme featured renditions from various choral groups, including the NUJ and Bayelsa Classical Choirs as well as reading of relevant Bible scriptures reflecting the purpose of Christmas.
Dignitaries at the Carol were the Secretary to the State Government, Right Honourable Konbowei Benson, Member representing Yenagoa Constituency One in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Oforji Oboku and his Sagbama Constituency Two counterpart, Hon. Benard Kenebai.
Others included the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Dambo Diriyai (SAN), Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, the state Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr Samuel Numonengi and a former Commissioner for Works, Engineer Emmanuel Opigo.
