OGUN State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, yesterday inaugurated an information communication technology, ICT, forensic laboratory centre to fight against terrorism, disaster and vandalization amongst other crimes.
NSCDC’s commandant, Hammed Abodurin, while inaugurating the ICT centre in the company of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun, at the command’s permanent site at Owu Dekudu Village in Kabape, Abeokuta, said that about 209 senior officers between levels 8 to 14 have been promoted to their new ranks.
According to Abodunrin, the ICT forensic lab was part of the efforts put in place by the NSCDC to meet the expectations of combating crimes and criminality in the state as 80 per cent of cybercrimes is committed on mobile phones
The commandant said that with the establishment of the centre, officers of the security agency would be engaged in training on cybercrime security through gadgets that would be set up to monitor and detect crime scenes across the state.
He, however, commended the newly decorated officers to remain dedicated to their vocation and service to the command, saying “to whom much is given, much is expected”.
Earlier, Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, said that no state can develop without improving its ICT, urging the leadership of the NSCDC to extend the same gesture to other sister security agencies for the security of the country.
“It is already acknowledged all over the world that no state can progress without enhancing. The Civil Defence has taken a very giant and bold step to ensure that not only are we going to be physically available, but we are also going to avail ourselves with data and the only way to do that is to raise the capacity of the people who will interact with this date.
“So, I am expecting that when this centre is fully operational NSCDC will also extend this good gesture to other sister security agencies in the arm forces and outside their immediate catchment areas to enhance and uplift the level of ICT awareness of our people,” he said.
