There was palpable fear at Anambra state government house Awka after the loud sound of a burst exhaust pipe of a moving truck in front of the complex.
On hearing the loud sound, the unit security head at the gate of the Government House shouted”take cover” and all the policemen on guard ran inside the compound and closed the main gate in fear of an attack by the hoodlums that attacked the government house Owerri Imo state.
Consequently, it was learnt that no police operative is manning the main gate as they have retreated behind the entrance gate, peeping from the fancy rails of the government house fence.
To this end, a detachment of the Nigerian Army and police men have barricaded the entrance road to the government house with logs of wood and old tyres preventing visitors from passing through the area.
This is coming shortly after the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor had a close door meeting with Gov Willie Obiano yesterday.
At the government house Awka, a heavy detachment of soldiers were seen manning strategic positions at the seat of power scrutinizing pedestrians and workers coming into the premises.
Behind the government house, a similar pictorial was captured with security operatives on plain clothes positioned at the area.
Speaking shortly after the close door meeting the. Defence Chief Irabor assured that his officers and men are battle ready to counter any attempt by bandits to carry out a repeat of what happened at Owerri the Imo state capital.
He noted that the army would continue to work hand in glove with other security operatives in the state, expressing confidence that the state would be safe at all times.
Speaking earlier Gov Willie Obiano noted that Anambra state has remained the safest state in the country, adding that due to a well tailored security network in the area, security operatives have apprehended five persons in connection with the attack by unknown gun men at Isuofia community, the home of Prof Charles Soludo.
Also blocked is the right lane of Ziks avenue Awka which houses the Correctional Center, Police Command, Department of State Security DSS and the Governor’s lodge .
However the barricade has sentenced residents of Awka, transporters, and travellers in and outside the capital to untold hardship as they now follow the express road through the Amawbia by-pass spending over two hours in a traffic jam.
