Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Abok Ayuba at the weekend said that members of the ninth State House of Assembly would continue to prioritize empowerment programs.
He stated this while interacting with newsmen at the residence of Hon Ibrahim Hassan, a member representing Jos North /North State constituency and one-time Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly.
The Speaker, while flagging off the disbursement process of N15 million to 1,500 carefully selected women from Jos North /North constituency being starter capital to enable them to start businesses of their choices with a view to mitigating the adverse effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, lauded the effort of his colleague and advised the beneficiaries to use the stipends for the purpose on which it was given.
The empowerment program is a gesture of Hon. Hassan, and was done in collaboration with Plateau Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (PLASMEDA) as part of his constituency project.
During the interaction, Abok said “we choose to base our priority on empowering our constituents as part of our conscious and concerted effort to support and help reduce the hardship they are faced with which is largely caused by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. We know what they have been facing, and we feel for them. Given the opportunity, we would do more.”
He further stressed that the scheme targets mostly the women folks as they are the most vulnerable and worse hit, “hence, they need our desired attention and help.”
