Few hours to a publication from one of the national daily’s headlines that read ‘Masari passes vote of no confidence in IGP’ Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State and Police authority have roared in anger on the media report, describing it as malicious.
According to the report, Governor Masari made the claim on Thursday when the IGP who was on a one-day working visit to Katsina State paid a courtesy call on the Governor at the Government House.
In a swift reaction, the Director-General on Media to the Katsina State Governor, Abdu Labaran Malumfashi, few hours later, organized a media briefing on Friday on what he described as lies the allegation against his Principal, Governor Masari.
Abdu Labaran, said the State government is unhappy over the newspaper’s publication and the choice of headline.
“Governor Masari did not and has never passed a vote of no confidence on the Inspector-General of Police.
“Katsina government is disappointed over the headline of the newspaper. The Governor never said anything related to what the headline said. The newspaper lied about the story,” Labaran disclosed.
He, also noted that the next line of action would be made known after the State Government discusses with the management of the newspaper.”
Also reacting, police authority in Katsina said the publication is false, fake, mischievous and a calculated attempt by the Newspaper to soil the image of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Police authority in a release NO.42/2021, RE-MASARI PASSES VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN IGP, THE SUN NEWSPAPER PUBLICATION OF FRIDAY, 3RD SEPTEMBER, 2021, Katsina State Police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah said“The fact of the matter was that on 2nd September 2021, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Alkali Usman Baba, visited Katsina state Police Command on a one-day working visit and as the tradition demands, he paid a courtesy visit on Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, in his office at the Government House, Katsina.
“The IGP was warmly received by the state Governor, some members of the state executive council, the legislature, the Deputy Governor, the State Chief Judge, and Senator representing Katsina Southern Senatorial District among other important personalities, including many journalists from the Katsina state Correspondents’ Chapel. The Command wishes to emphasize that there was no time the state Governor made such remarks of no confidence on the Inspector-General of Police, during the visit but to our chagrin, the Sun Newspaper correspondent was the only journalist that mischievously crafted the fake story of vote of no confidence.”
The Command urges members of the public to discountenance the fake news, as the Nigeria Police Force will not be distracted by the evil machinations of fifth columnists who are hell-bent on feeding the public with falsehood intended to cause panic and disaffection.
However, for the benefit of the doubt, the State government provided the Sun newspaper correspondent in Katsina, Agaju Madugba the forum to respond as he revealed that the headline he used for the story was different from what the newspaper settled for.
