As the All Progressives Congress, APC, membership registration exercise commences in Kwara state, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the State has warned Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to rein in his thugs and desist from causing mayhem in Ilorin and the State at large.

The Kwara PDP noted that this warning became necessary in view of the violence that greeted last Thursday’s Kwara APC Stakeholders’ meeting at the Banquet Hall, Ilorin, where some aggrieved members of the party were attacked, cars and some government facilities vandalized by political thugs loyal to the governor.

The weapon-wielding thugs who were said to have been mobilized by the Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to the Governor, Alashi Obasanjo, popularly known as SOJ, later moved to some areas within the metropolis, brandishing guns and machetes, inflicted injuries on some people and shot sporadically in the air to create tension and fears in the minds of residents of the areas.

In a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr Tunde Ashaolu, the Kwara PDP condemned the violence that marred the APC meeting, stressing that recent political violence caused by the party within the State is shameful and portrays Kwara in bad light.

The party said, “In the interest of peace and harmony that Kwara is known for, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq should rein in his political thugs and refrain from causing civil unrest in any part of the State, as his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, begins its membership registration exercise tomorrow, Tuesday, 9.

“This warning becomes imperative in view of the violence that erupted during the Stakeholders meeting of the APC held at the Banquet Hall, Ilorin, last Thursday, where some ‘opposing’ members of the party were attacked, cars and government facilities vandalized by political thugs loyal to the governor.

“We do not want to experience in Kwara, the kind of violence, bloodletting and killing witnessed in some other states where the APC membership registration exercise has commenced. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq will be held responsible if the exercise turns bloody in Kwara.

“We also wish to call on security operatives in the State to be on alert and ensure the maintenance of law and order in the State, particularly, Ilorin.”

The Kwara PDP also noted that the lingering crisis within the Kwara APC was a reflection of the leadership failure of the governor, saying that a leader that cannot manage his party cannot successfully lead and manage a State.

Governor Abdulrazaq has not only failed his party men but has also failed Kwarans. He is incapacitated and has no clue on how to manage his party and lead the State. In fact, Kwarans’ hope and aspirations in the present administration have dwindled,” the party said.
