SMALL and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN, yesterday, commenced the training of over 70 primary and secondary school teachers in Nasarawa State on entrepreneurship skills.

Director-General and Chief Executive of SMEDAN, Dr. Dikko Rodda, while speaking at the opening ceremony of the three-day programme organized in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Government, said the training is aimed at stimulating the culture of entrepreneurship in schools across the state.

Represented by the North-Central Coordinator of the organization, Charity Abbah, he explained that the training programme was designed for pupils and students of the benefiting schools.

He noted that the programme was carefully designed to guide the teachers on how to handhold pupils/students towards their entrepreneurial journey. “How to become an entrepreneur, identify business opportunities, sales and marketing skills, how to secure capital to start a business, among others.

“The chief executive of SMEDAN initiated this programme to prepare the young ones to life-changing opportunities than just getting a degree to look for a job,” he said.

He said the agency is optimistic that the training will go a long way towards actualizing the federal government’s efforts to lift 100 million people out of poverty, urging the state government to take ownership of the programme and step it down to all primary and secondary schools.

Responding, Governor Abdullahi Sule commended the agency for the partnership to train teachers on entrepreneurial skills, noting that the gesture will go a long way in curtailing poverty, unemployment and restiveness.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Hajiya Fatu Sabo, expressed the government’s determination to partner any group interested in inculcating skills on the people.
