MILITARY High Command said that troops of Operation Accord apprehended 11 suspected illegal miners following credible intelligence on illegal mining activities at Kadauri general area in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Coordinator Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, in a statement, added that over nine armed bandits were killed, while two bandit informants were arrested in different operations in North West.

Enenche said that the suspects have been handed over to the appropriate prosecuting authority for further action.

“Troops of Operation Accord have intensified the onslaught against criminal elements in the northwest zone with significant successes.

“The gallant troops while on covert operation at Galadi village in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State made contact with bandits. During the operation, two bandits were neutralized, while two AK-47 rifles were recovered.

“Equally, the gallant troops during the clearance operation at Sabon Tunga and Tamuske villages neutralized several armed bandits and rescued three kidnapped victims. The gallant troops were supported by Nigerian Air Force helicopter gunships bombarded bandit’s enclaves at Dutsen Emai in Zamfara State.

“In another development, troops while on routine patrol at Gobirawa village made contact with armed bandits. During the encounter, six-armed bandits were neutralized while four AK-47 rifles, three Dane guns, and two motorcycles were recovered.

“Additionally, troops of forwarding Operating Base Kwatarkwashi arrested one Shafiu Suleman, a wanted bandit’s informant at Kwatarkwashi Market,” he said.

Enenche revealed that preliminary investigation showed that the suspect was the mastermind of the recent kidnapping of some locals within the Kwatarkwashi district of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

“Following distress call on the presence of suspected bandits at Gidan Ruwa along Rukudawa axis of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, troops swiftly responded and pursued the bandits as they fled on sighting the approaching troops. However, one bandit was neutralized, while one AK 47 rifle and one magazine loaded with 29 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition were recovered. Equally, two bandits were arrested in the process,” he said.

He concluded that the Armed Forces and other security agencies will not relent until all enemies of the nation are neutralized and normalcy restored to all troubled zones.
