The stop TB partnership Nigeria has partnered with the National Orientation Agency
NOA towards eliminating TB in the country, thereby calling on all relevant stakeholders to join in the partnership.
The national coordinator for the Stop TB programme
in Nigeria, Dr Mayowa Joel made the call yesterday at a webinar while addressing the meeting, stressing that more than ever before collaboration with relevant bodies cannot be overemphasized.
He said the partnership with the National Orientation Agency was part of the activities to mark this year’s World TB Day, even though there has been a working relationship with both agencies, it was an opportunity to strengthen the existing relationship for more information dissemination on the issues bothering TB case finding in Nigeria.
He emphasised that TB has continued to kill thousands of people annually as such more work need to be done to reach out to the people through advocacy visits, sensitization meetings and programmes in the various indigenous languages which the NOA could be of great assistance considering the working relationship that exists between both agencies.
Dr Mayowa said this partnership programme will also help the national TB programme to ensure that information gets to the community levels such that there is a contract person of the NOA for review of these programmes at the states as well as strengthen all activities that will give proper knowledge on case findings and treatment.
Dr Isaac Alogua, maintained that collaboration with the NOA should get to the state and local governments level for dissemination of information to help project the challenges faced by TB cases in the country. He added that the structures of the NOA need to understand such that TB programmes can be known from every quarter in order to meet the UN target of 2022.
