… As IPOB renames Imo Govt House after slain ESN Commander

… Changes popular Awomamma Junction to Ikonso Junction

… Directs Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Imo State Govt to comply immediately

… Eastern Palm University shut down over ownership crisis

TENSION is brewing in Imo state following the decision of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB members to rename Government House Owerri along Douglas Road after the slain Commander of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, Mr. Ikonso. Also, the controversial Eastern Palm University has also been shut down due to an ownership crisis that has been lingering since Hope Uzodinma assumed duties as the governor of the state.

The outlawed group also renamed the popular Awomamma Junction after the slain Biafra freedom fighter that was recently killed by security operatives. IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful in a statement made available to the media yesterday said it was unanimously agreed that Ikonso is immortalized for the gallant way he and some of his men died in the hands of security agents in defence of the Biafran cause. “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Biafrans worldwide ably led by our great and indomitable leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to announce to the world our unanimous decision to rename the Imo State Government House, Douglas Road Owerri, and Awomamma Junction after the late heroic Commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) Ikonso murdered in cold blood by cowardly Nigeria security operatives.

“The affected places will henceforth be called Ikonso Government House, Ikonso Way, and Ikonso Junction respectively. This is with immediate effect and compliance is required of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the Imo state government beginning from today the 28th day of April 2021. “This decision is one of the ways IPOB members and Biafrans all over the world have agreed to immortalize the name of our brave Ikonso and his men killed by the callous cowardly Nigeria security agents that flee from terrorists and bandits but derive pleasure in killing unarmed Biafra agitators. “Ikonso and other fallen heroes with him did nothing to warrant their summary extrajudicial execution. They made the supreme sacrifice in defense of our ancestral land against Fulani terrorists, jihadists, and killer herdsmen. Biafra shall never forget them.

“We, therefore, expect maximum cooperation from relevant government agencies, officials, and the Imo State House of Assembly because we don’t know who this Douglas is that a Road in Owerri was named after but we know who Ikonso was. “He defended Imo State with his life for, without him, most Imo indigenes would be in IDP camps by now courtesy of Fulani terrorists,” the statement reads.

In a related development, in a bid to safeguard the lives of the students of the Easter Palm University, Ogboko, Imo State, due to the ongoing ownership crisis, the management of the institution has announced that it has been shut down with immediate effect. Briefing journalists in Owerri yesterday, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tola Badejo said that the decision was taken to safeguard the lives of the students and staff and as well as the properties of the varsity. Badejo disclosed that the institution took the decision following the ownership crisis between Rochas Okorocha and the state government. He revealed that the Commissioner for Education had recently visited and ordered the students to leave the premises. “The recent visit by the Imo State Commissioner for Education ordering the students to leave the premises was unsettling for the institution.

The recent removal of the university’s entrance billboard by the Imo State Government and its replacement with the proposed renamed K. O Mbadiwe university by the government aided armed policemen is simply one action too many. “Antics and actions by the Imo State Government have disrupted the academic activities of the institution and have stirred an air of panic and discomfort in a place that is designed to bring a sense of purpose to the young bright minds within its walls.

“The decision to shut down was made upon the heels of the recent and incessant harassment by the Imo State Government and its total disregard for the judgment of the state High Court on this matter. “All students and parents are urged to contact the Registrar’s office in order to gain better insight and support during this period. Creating a healthy and conducive environment for learning is key to our operations at Eastern Palm University and as such a parameter we cannot trade,” he said.
