A police Sergeant yesterday shot one Abiodun Jimoh at Elelenwo Police Station, without justification.

Condemning the killing of the civilian by the Sergeant, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph G. Mukan warned his officers against reckless attacks on civilians who they are meant to protect.

The victim, who was immediately rushed to t Hospital, later died and his remains deposited in the mortuary.

The incident is being investigated and the state police command has assured that the outcome would be communicated to the public while the Sergeant who carried out the dastardly act is currently in custody, for debriefing and psychological evaluation.

His ‘Orderly Room Trial,’ according to a police source, will commence in earnest for possible arraignment.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni, stated that the state police command was in touch with the deceased’s family and had commiserated with them over the unfortunate incident.

He said they were assured that the interest of justice would be served in the circumstance while appealing to the public for calm and allow the law to take its full course.
