Australian Robert Whittaker has called out UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya after defeating Kevin Gastelum in the main card of the fight night.
The Reaper dominated the match as all three judges scored the contest in favour of the Australian mixed martial artist.
When asked who was next during the post-match interview, the 30-year-old did not mince his words as he sent a message to Adesanya on UFC.
“I’m going to work hard. I think I have some tricks he hasn’t seen yet and I’ll give him a good run.” Whittaker added that he wanted the rematch to be hosted in front of a massive crowd back in Australia around September.
The former middleweight champion suffered a second-round knockout in November 2019, but has bounced back to win three consecutive fight including Darren Till, Jarred Cannonier and now Gastelum.
The Reaper was supposed to have faced Paulo Costa who was also a victim of Adesanya’s masterplan display, but the Brazilian tested positive to COVID-19 as he was replaced by Gastelum.
Adesanya suffered his first loss in mixed martial arts to light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259 held in March 2021.
Blachowicz became the first man to defeat Israel Adesanya at UFC 259 light heavyweight contest in Las Vegas.
All three judges gave the contest to the Polish fighter after dominating the majority of the rounds as it went the distance.
