Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State said the ongoing war against bandits is encouraging, insisting that attacks on communities had subsided in five out of the eight troubled local government areas.
Masari spoke yesterday after inspecting a proposed Airforce landing site in Funtua Local Government.
He said based on security reports, places such as Safana, Jibia, Batsari, Kankara and Dandume are enjoying relative peace.
According to him, the state is only experiencing banditry and kidnapping on communities in Dandume, Sabuwa and Faskari areas.
“If you go through our records for the last three months the only areas where we are having problems are in Faskari, Sabuwa and Dandume,” the governor said.
He said the Nigerian Air Force had resolved to construct a landing space in Funtua to deal with the security situation in the remaining troubled areas.
Masari said the landing space would help to reduce response time in dealing with attacks on communities.
“The idea is to launch a helicopter park in Funtua to easily respond to any distress call to save communities from bandits’ attacks,” he added.
He said the Nigerian Air Force would use the airstream used during the Second World War for the proposed air force landing space.
Masari added that his administration would provide additional space and construct a road leading to the proposed landing site.
