All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger state has alleged that its former Chairman, Alhaji Imam Jibrin contravened the constitution of the party which informed the vote of no confidence passed on him.

Mr. Khaleel Aliyu, Legal Adviser, APC caretaker committee in the state made this known in Minna.

Aliyu was reacting to the press briefing by Jibrin urging the National Caretaker Committee to comply with December 8, 2020, National Executive Committee (NEC) decision recognizing him (Jibrin) as caretaker committee chairman.

Recall that the state APC has been engulfed with a leadership crisis recently.

Aliyu, alleged that “Jibrin, the former chairman of the party was removed from office based on financial misappropriation, breach of the party constitution, and gross misconduct.

“Based on the report of a five-man fact-finding committee a vote of no confidence was passed against the former chairman, Alhaji Imam Jibrin, former secretary, Mr. Mohammed Liman, and former treasurer, Dr. Shafi Abdulsalam,” he said.

He explained that section 17 of the APC constitution states that once a vote of no confidence has been passed on an elected official, a person must be nominated by the State Executive Committee to fill the position.

The Legal Adviser stated that the state chapter of the party has no case against the embattled Chairman and two others but between them and the police.

“We have withdrawn our case against them, what they are facing now is a criminal case of misappropriation of over N800 million party funds with the police,” he said.

He denied the allegation that the state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Bello was interfering with the administration of the party.

“As far as we are concerned the state Governor has no hand in the administration of the state APC,” he said.

Aliyu expressed confidence in the Governor who he said was working harmoniously with the state party leadership to develop the state.

He alleged that some members of the party who left because of Jibrin’s style of leadership are beginning to return.

The Legal Adviser noted that the current caretaker committee chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Galkogo, was inaugurated by the national secretariat of APC on December 11 this year.

He said that the party had since set up a reconciliation committee to settle grievances and unite members.

Earlier, the embattled Chairman of APC in the state, Alhaji Imam Jibrin had urged the National Caretaker Committee of the party to comply with the December 8, 2020, National Executive Committee (NEC) decision concerning the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party.

Jibrin who made the call in  Minna during a briefing with newsmen said that the NEC recognized the state executive of the party led by him (Jibrin), therefore should be sworn in as the caretaker committee chairman.

“We urge the national caretaker committee to comply with 8th December 2020 NEC resolution to swear in me,(Jibrin Imam) and other congress elected officials of our party to chair the caretaker committee of the party in the state,” he said.

He alleged that the state governor Alhaji Abubakar Bello was fueling the crisis that has been destabilizing the party for some months now.

“The problem confronting the party is the unconstitutional breach of APCs’ constitution in the state by the state governor,” he said.

The embattled Chairman warned that should the party collapse in the state, the Governor should be held responsible for killing it.

He said that instead of resolving the crisis engulfing the party, Bello has refused to do so, adding that all efforts to seek redress to ensure peace reigned failed.
