LP debunks ‘no candidate’ rumour in Owerri Municipal

By Athan Agbakwuru, Owerri

Barely four days to the forthcoming state assembly elections nationwide, the Labour Party, LP in Imo State has denied rumours making the rounds that it has no candidate for the House of Assembly elections in Owerri Municipal Council Area of the state.

In a statement issued yesterday, the LP State Assembly candidate for Owerri Municipal, Hon. Clinton Amadi described the news that went viral on several social media platforms as “a mischievous, malicious and criminal piece of propaganda being bandied about on social media as “Breaking News.”

He alleged that the rumour was the handiwork of agents of discord in both APC and PDP whose intent is to make the electorate believe that Imo LP has no candidate in Owerri Municipal State Constituency elections slated for March 11, 2023.

He said, “For the avoidance of doubt and to set the records straight, we hereby state categorically that Hon Clinton Amadi is the authentic and duly recognized candidate of LP in the aforesaid elections.”

“That the spurious challenges to the candidacy of Hon Clinton Amadi mounted by APC, PDP and their agents have been soundly defeated in the courts. Thus, Hon Clinton Amadi has no outstanding case(s) in any court of competent jurisdiction. That such base misinformation emanating from the camps of APC and PDP is a tacit admission of failure on their part.

“Knowing they have already lost the elections, and being simultaneously bereft of ideas, they are now trying to dissuade the electorate from voting for Hon Clinton Amadi by spreading perfidious lies and insinuations about his candidacy like a drowning man, they are now grasping for straws. Such efforts are of course an exercise in futility.

“Need we remind these agents of darkness that their actions constitute a contempt of court as it means that they have, ipso facto, refused to accept and heed the judgements given against them by both the High Court and the Court of Appeal?”

Amadi therefore encouraged all registered voters in Owerri Municipal to come out en-masse this Saturday and give Hon Clinton Amadi a resounding victory at the polls.

He added, “We must once and for all dump these incompetent, corrupt and cankered malefactors in APC and PDP on the dung hill of history where they belong.”

Also reacting to the rumour, State Chairman of Labour Party in Imo, Dr Ambrose Onyekwere confirmed that the party has a state assembly candidate in Owerri Municipal in the person of Hon. Clinton Amadi.

He further explained that the LP has candidates in all the 27state constituencies of Imo and is hopeful of winning a majority, if not all, of the seats in the coming elections.

Dr Onyekwere who dismissed the so-called ‘breaking news’ as totally false and misleading urged people of Owerri Municipal and the state at large to ignore the rumour and troop out to vote for LP candidates come Saturday, March 11, 2023.
