Kogi PDP Unveils Dino Melaye as Governorship Candidate

Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has formally presented Senator Dino Melaye as its governorship candidate for the forthcoming November 11 Gubernatorial Election in the state with a call on aggrieved party members to forgive.

Engr Sam Uhuotu, chairman of PDP in the state who presented the flag on Wednesday in Lokoja said the present scenario in the state presented the best opportunity for the party to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party chairman called for the unity of all members and urged aggrieved members to forgive and join hands with the party to work for victory of the party come November 11.

“Whatever may be your annoyance and grievances, forgive for the sake of Kogi State. Vengeance has no vision. Don’t be swayed by the inordinate desire to revenge but let us work together for the good of the party and the state.

Also speaking, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, former governor of the state, urged all members, irrespective of differences, to be united as a family and work together for the emergence of Senator Dino Melaye as governor of the state.

Gov. Ibro (as popularly known) used the occasion to reiterate his avowed commitment to the ideals of the party saying that he would never leave the party for any other but was rather committed to the eventual emergence of Melaye as governor of the state.

“How do you expect me to leave my party to work for another? We should see ourselves as members of one family and work together for the victory of the PDP candidate. By the grace of God, Dino is the next governor of Kogi State”, he said

Also speaking, a PDP chieftain in the state, Senator Tunde Ogbeha urged the party members to be committed to the vision of winning the governorship election and avoid divisive inclinations.

He commended the people of Kogi East and Central Senatorial Districts for respecting the principle of power rotation in the state.

“What happened in the PDP is not worse than what happened in the other parties. I appeal to everybody both the aggrieved and the winners to work together ensure that we deliver Senator Dino Melaye at the polls”, he said.

In his acceptance speech, Melaye asked for forgiveness of members and all those he night whom he might have offended in one way or the other especially his opponents in the struggle for the ticket.

“I will start by asking for forgiveness. I say, I am very very sorry. Take the primaries as a football match between Arsenal and Manchester United, the passion to get close always push. Now, I am exchanging jerseys with my opponents.

“PDP will do things differently when we are in. I am going to be a governor with the fear of God”, he said and thanked members for giving him the opportunity to fly the party’s flag”, he said.
