President declares state of emergency on food security

By Mathew Dadiya

President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on food security with immediate effect in the country.

Presidential spokesman, Dele Alake, disclosed this while briefing State House Correspondents on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Alake said, the President’s action is predicated upon “noticeable rising food cost” across the country as a result of some recent government policies aimed at revamping the economy.

He said, among other measures, government would deploy some funds accruing from petrol subsidy removal immediately to the agricultural sector to check the food security challenge.
