The Women Organized for Mentorship and Advocacy Network (WOMAN) is advocating for increased investment in women’s empowerment to drive progress, aligning with the 2024 International Women’s Day theme “Invest in Women and accelerate progress.”

Lady Eunice Nnachi, the Executive Director of WOMAN, emphasized the importance of empowering women physically, mentally, and financially to enable them to take on leadership roles in society

Nnachi said, “investing in women’s economic empowerment is crucial as it benefits both women and society at large.

“However, there is a significant gap in investments, with over 340 million women and girls projected to live in extreme poverty by 2030 if current rates Persist.

“Closing this gap involves providing women with financial resources, access to land, information, technology, and natural resources

“Additionally, ensuring women have access to productive jobs in conditions of freedom, equity, security, and dignity is essential for their empowerment

“The call for investing in women extends beyond economic benefits; it is about creating a more equitable and inclusive society where all women are empowered and valued.

“Through collective action and shared ownership, gender equality can be promoted globally, fostering justice, dignity, hope, collaboration, and respect for all individuals”

The International Women Day is commemorated every year to celebrate the achievements of women all over the world as well as raise voices for issues affecting women.

The goal is to create a world where all women are empowered, valued, and included, fostering a more equitable and inclusive society for future generations
