The Nimo community in Njikoka local government area of Anambra state has flagged off her 2024 farming season to mitigate the pains of hunger in Nigeria.

Addressing the indigenes during the flag-off ceremony at the community’s Owa farming square yesterday, the President General of Nimo Town Development Union, NTDU, Engr. Dan Zeelunjo Anakpe-Analikukwu, said the purpose was to eradicate food scarcity and poverty by cultivating every agricultural land in Nimo Owa, Owe, Mkpuluata, Nkokpo, Agu Nogba and Agu Ekpe, all situated within the community.

According to the PG, “during my campaign, I promised my people that there will be an agricultural revolution, today is the commencement of the fulfillment.

“Nimo people are hard working and industrious with enough land that will accommodate everyone that wants to farm. Agriculture is very important especially now that the cost of living is high and it is very necessary that all hands should be on deck so that we will end hunger and poverty in the Nimo community, Anambra state and Nigeria as a whole.

“Products such as yam, cassava, vegetables amongst others will be cultivated this farming season. Soon, tractors will be brought to the farms with high breed seedlings.

“My administration will be different from that of my predecessors and I will always abide by the constitution of NTDU.”

First National vice President NTDU Hon. Chigbo Aniedobe, in his speech, said, “We are here for total revolution and to eradicate food scarcity and poverty. The aim and objective is for all members of the community to come out en mass and farm so that by next year, we will have enough food to eat and sell. The message is to go and cultivate and not possess.”

Also, the Secretary General NTDU, Hon. Tony Mbubah, Public Relation Officer NTDU, Hon. Omile Chukwuma Valentine, NTDU Youth Leader, Comrade Chidike Okwaji, in their separate interviews commended the present administration of NTDU led by the PG for the initiative.

“They said it is time for massive food production from the Nimo community and that they will keep sensitizing the people on the importance of agriculture in nation building”, he said.

It was gathered that the programme with the theme; ‘Nimo Food Revolution, War against Hunger’ has in attendance over 600 farmers.
