The former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Rivers State, Prof Zaccheaus Adangor has rejected the new appointment by the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Recall that the former Commissioner for Justice, a loyalist of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike was among the Fubara’s cabinet members that resigned their positions at the heat of the political crisis between the Governor and his political god father in the state.

After the Peace Pact with President Bola Tinubu on the state crisis, Prof Adangor alongside other Commissioners who left the Fubara’s government returned with assurance to work with the government to achieve the needed development in the state.

The Secretary to State Government, SSG, Dr Tammy Danagogo on Tuesday announced a new office for Adangor relieving him of his position as the Commissioner for Justice explaining that he had been assigned to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office).

Also redeployed is the Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, who is to man the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment, and with immediate effect. Meanwhile, Prof Adangor has rejected the new position assigned to him by the Governor.

In a letter addressed to the SSG, Dr Danagogo dated April 24, 2024, Adangor stated: “My attention has been drawn to your letter dated 23rd April, 2024 and widely circulated on social media whereby, I was deployed to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office).

“Further to the referenced letter, I hereby give you notice of my rejection of the said deployment and resignation from the Rivers State Executive Council with effect from 24th day of April, 2024.

“I wish to state for the record, that I am no longer willing to continue to serve in the administration of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, in any capacity whatsoever.

“It is important to mention that the Governor of Rivers State had in the past couple of weeks willfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State by directing me not to defend, oppose, or appear in suits instituted against the Honourable Attorney-General and the Government of Rivers State by persons admittedly hired and sponsored by the Government of Rivers State.

“Having served the Government and good people of Rivers State dutifully as a member of the Rivers State Executive Council for the past five years, it has become imperative for me to quit the administration in order to preserve my reputation”, the letter read.

Adangor however, wished the administration of Governor Fubara a success.

At the time of filing this report, the former Commissioner for Finance, Kamalu has not reacted on his new position.
