Group calls for financial autonomy of LGAs in Benue State

Society for the Youth and the Downtrowdden, SOYD, a Non Governmental Organization has called for financial autonomy for Local Government Areas in Benue State.

In a press release issued by the President/CEO of SOYD, Comrade Gabriel Ogwuche, stated that, “We have been carefully monitoring the programs of the current administration in Benue State under the watch of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, and wish to reiterate that the Government’s determination to rescue the State from the grip of poverty and backwardness is not in doubt at all.”

Ogwuche stated that the decision to grant full financial autonomy to the Local Governments was a loadable and expressions of the administration’s readiness and commitment to secure the future, Democracy and in particular, bring prosperity to all irrespectively.

He said that as representative of the people, “We commend the State Government for this policy and urge the Governor to sustain the tempo of good leadership against all odds in order to fulfil electoral promises to the people.

“Also, we are not ignorant of the emergency intervention and other sustainable economic programs for the retirees and other vulnerable
members of the society since this government came to office.

“Indeed, we are grateful for this unusual sacrifice.”

Consequently, the SOYD called on the good people of Benue State and other relevant political partners to cooperate and speak in one voice with the Government to implement its message of hope and prosperity in every parts of the State.
