General Elections: Youths mount football pitches on Lagos roads

Ahead of the opening of polling units in some parts of Lagos metropolis for the general elections, youths in some areas mounted several football pitches on the road.

Correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who monitored the metropolis on Saturday observed that in Mushin Local Government Area, no fewer than 10 pitches were seen between the Olorunsogo Bus Stop and Idi-Oro Bus stop.

NAN reports that some of the pitches were mounted very close to military check-points on the road.

Also, there were less security operatives on some of the roads as well as strategic points in preparation for the general elections.

NAN correspondents who monitored the roads from Alimosho, Ikeja, Ogba, Oshodi, Mushin, Ojuelegba, Costain, Ikotun, Okota, Ajegunle and Iganmu areas observed that there were not so many check-points and security operatives on the roads.

Apart from Mushin and Oshodi area where there were few check-points with heavily armed military officials, only few policemen was seen on other areas within the metropolis.

Meanwhile, at the Surulere area, the presence of security personnel had yet to be seen at the time of filing this report.

There was restriction of movement for vehicles but sports enthusiasts, food sellers, newspaper vendors and other pedestrians were going about their businesses.

Compared to the 2019 general elections, the presence of security operatives and road blocks in the state was relatively low.
