Bauchi accident claims 25 lives

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that 25 people lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Ahmed Wakili on 23/03/2023 at about 1433hrs a report received from the divisional police officer, Gamawa division revealed that on the same date at about 1400hrs said a lone fatal motor vehicle accident involving 18-seater Hummer bus, ash in colour with registration no. JMA 59 XA, driven by a yet to be identified driver was coming from Hadeja-Jigawa State to Maiduguri-Borno State when the accident occurred.

PPRO added that on reaching Udubo village-Gamawa LGA, the right front tyre of the vehicle burst, as a result, the driver lost control of the vehicle, swerved to the side of the road and hit four persons sitting beside the road, identified as; Inspector Dauda Adamu attached to Police Mobile Force (10PMF) Bauchi, Sanusi Yusuf aged 42yrs, Mohd Sule aged 37yrs and Mohd Kawule aged 45yrs all ‘m’ of Udubo village who sustained serious injuries.

Consequently, the vehicle burst into flames with twenty-one (21) passengers on board. On receipt of the report, a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly rushed to the scene and conveyed the victims to the FMC Azare for medical attention where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor as they were burnt beyond recognition and deposited at the general hospital Hadeja.

Similarly, the four persons that were hit by the vehicle along the road after bursting of the tyre were confirmed dead on arrival at Hospital, making the total number of dead people to 25.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Aminu Alhassan commiserates with the family on this irreplaceable loss and prays for the departed souls to rest in peace.
