As Nigerians marked this year’s Democracy Day, the Dallatun
Ringim and chairman of Sankara (Nigeria) Limited, Senator Danladi Abdullahi Sankara has called on them to offer full support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enable him reinvent the country for the needed progress.

Senator Sankara, who represented Jigawa State in the Red Chamber, made the call on Monday in Abuja while fielding questions from newsmen in Abuja on Democracy Day celebration.

He paid glowing tributes to the memory of the winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Chief Mashood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola on whose mandate the day is commemorated.

The former lawmaker emphasized that the great selfless sacrifice made by the late Abiola was not in vain as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been destined to actualise the “Hope 93” and “Renewed Hope 23” for the progress and sustainable development of Nigeria.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has started well and positively to rework Nigeria for progress and much desired sustainable development. I urge all Nigerians, irrespective of political or other sentiments to give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu full support to reorganise Nigeria for progress and sustainable development,” Senator Sankara pleaded.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari had on June 6, 2018 directed that effective 2019 Nigeria’s Democracy Day, marked every May 29 since the return of democracy in 1999, be shifted to June 12 to honour Abiola.

Abiola, who won the 1993 presidential election, but he was never formally declared winner and was not sworn into office by the military government led by General Ibrahim Babangida.

He was later imprisoned by another military Head of State, General Sani Abacha as he struggled to actualise his mandate. He died in prison in 1998.
