National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, NCPLWD, has that it was working closely with the Federal Government to establish special salaries for workers with disabilities in the country.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr James Lalu made this known in Abuja at the 2023 Delegate Conference of the National Association of the Blind.

Lalu explained that persons with disabilities were more affected by the removal of fuel subsidy because in most cases they had to rely on an assistant to move about resulting in extra cost of transportation.

Also the outgoing National President of Nigeria Association of the Blind, NAB, Mr Ishiyaku Adamu who decried the level of discrimination members face in obtaining jobs and education across the country called on president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give more leadership positions to persons with disabilities to ensure an all inclusive government.

Adamu noted that the event was aimed at bringing members together to discuss issues affecting them in the country and urged the incoming heads of the association to intensify efforts in pressing home their demands.

Meanwhile, the Director General, Nigerian Copyright Commission, NCC, Dr John Asein stated that the Commission will continue to provide necessary support to the blind and other forms of disability to ensure their inclusion in the society.

International Development Organization, Sightsavers, Representative, Esther Bature, restated its commitment to providing support to the Association saying that it will continue to engage in the Marrakesh Treaty with Government to achieve inclusion and policy implementation.
