…As Deputy Speaker resigns on health ground

KOGI State House of Assembly has for the first time in history, appointed a female Deputy Speaker Deputy Speaker following the resignation of erstwhile Deputy, Rt Hon. Enema Paul who resigned on health grounds.

Rt Hon. Enema Paul tendered his resignation letter on the floor of the House at Thursday plenary sitting in Lokoja, praising Governor Yahaya Bello for the love he has for him as he battled to restore his failing health.

He commended the governor, the 7th and 8th Kogi State House of Assembly for their love and prayers for him saying that the sickness started in 2011 and he had through the permission and assistance of Gov. Bello travelled abroad for surgery. but the illness was still on.

He said that treatment abroad did not help much as he feels weaker daily and concluded that he would go back to the foreign hospital even as the hospital has continued to call him daily asking him to return for the treatment.

Against the above background, Rt Hon Paul who is in his second term at the Assembly, sought for permission to travel abroad for a year and tendered his resignation letter which was accepted.

The Clerk of the House, Mr Chogudo Sule Ahmed thereafter called for nominations of another Deputy Speaker and Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola (APC-Ibaji) was nominated by Hon. Abu Jibrin (APC-Ajaokuta) as replacement for Hon. Paul.

Hon Seyi Bello (APC-Kabba/Bunu) seconded the nomination and it was affirmed by the members and the Clerk of the House, Mr Chogudo, accordingly thereafter administered the Oath of Office on her.

Nwuchiola after her inauguration, thanked Governor Yahaya Bello, the Speaker, Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf and members of the House for the nomination and peaceful conduct of the process.

She however, called for more unity and cooperation among the lawmakers to leave way for wholesome development of the State.
