Reps Speaker assured of govt palliatives, calls for understanding

The Seakerr House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas has assured Nigerians of government’s genuine commitment to allievating the hardship being faced by the people, occasioned by combined security, economic and other social challenges facing the country.

This is as he further submitted that as a People-Oriented Legislature, the House has never been known to shy away from issues concerning the general well-being of the people and will ginger government in providing the necessary solutions.

The Speaker stated this during an interactive session with newsmen at a world press conference in Abuja on national issues bordering on security, the economy, acute inflation and difficulty in the feeding ability of the common man.

The Speaker in his address proper noted that the very fabric if the Nigerian society is being tested, its resilience strained, and unity challenged, adding that amidst these trials, bational spirit remains unbroken, and resolve to overcome and thrive grows stronger.

“As representatives of the Nigerian people, we cannot pay lip service to the plight of the same individuals who elected us into office to protect their interests. It is our resolve to see that Nigerians, wherever they are, live their normal lives in peace and relative ease”

The Rt. Hon. Abbas said as elected representatives, Members acknowledge the pain and suffering of every family that has been a victim of brutal crimes and needless violence, and assured that robust legislative measures will be deployed to empower security agencies, ensure justice, and restore peace and order in our communities.

“The President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Bola Ahmad Tinubu, has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving the security situation and enhancing the capability of the armed forces. On Tuesday this week, I attended the induction ceremony of the T-129 ATAK helicopter and the King Air 360i aircraft into our esteemed Air Force. The acquisition of these state-of-the-art aircrafts clearly indicates the government’s dedication to investing in the security infrastructure of our nation.

“It reflects a proactive stance in adapting to the dynamic challenges of modern warfare and a commitment to providing our armed forces with the best tools to defend Nigeria and our people*

In the face these and other challenges, the Speaker said nigerians must have the courage to effect changes where necessary, and confirmed that these and other issues will form the basis of the forthcoming Legislative Summit on Security coming up in a matter of weeks.

Accordingly, the Speaker noted that in line with the House of Representatives Legislative Agenda, the time has come to demand greater transparency from the security agencies and full accountability for all the funds spent and earmarked for spending in the sector.

On the economic downturn and Its Implications on the people, Abbas said it is of particular concern to the House, especially the high inflation rates, particularly the rate of food inflation. As you are all aware, various factors, including insecurity, economic downturns and climate change-induced disruptions, have exacerbated this crisis.

The Speaker then asked for Nigerians patience as palliative measures take effect, change, especially of the magnitude aimied for, he noted, does not happen overnight as It requires time, effort, and, most importantly, the support of every Nigerian.
