Gunmen, on Thursday, attacked a police checkpoint along the Abakaliki-Enugu Highway and set a police patrol van on fire.

Nigerian Pilot gathered that the incident occurred early Thursday morning when unknown gunmen attacked the security operatives at Ishieke Police Checkpoint in Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State.

One police officer was reportedly killed in Ebonyi State and the gunmen also reportedly abducted another police officer.

It was gathered that the yet to be identified gunmen stormed the Ishieke police checkpoint and started shooting sporadically at the station before they set ablaze a vehicle.

It would be recalled that this incident came barely three weeks after unknown gunmen killed four police officers and two girls at a hilltop junction in Abakaliki.

Our sources, who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity, alleged that the unknown gunmen killed one police officer, kidnapped one and then set a vehicle ablaze at the spot.

When contacted, the Spokesman of Ebonyi State Police Command, DSP Joshua Ukandu confirmed that but denied the alleged killing or abduction of any police officer by the unknown gunmen.

“An incident happened this morning but we are still trying to put the details together. At this point, I can’t confirm much, let me get my facts right.

“I just got information that there was an attack at that point but I don’t have any other information,” Ukandu asserted.
