NO fewer than 26 persons have been killed by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen in separate attacks in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

This was disclosed by the Caretaker Chairman of the Local Government Council, Mr Henry Agba on Tuesday.

According to Mr Agba who spoke on phone, six personnel of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, BSCVGs and Livestock Guards who were the first casualty met their death at Mbabuande on Saturday in an ambush when they escorted families to go and bury their dead.

The second casualty, according to Mr Agba, took place on Sunday night around 11:00 pm, when the armed herdsmen attacked a community in Gyaruwa and killed 14 persons.

“On Monday, they attacked another village at Naka-Adoka road and killed several people. This happened when it was raining in Naka,” Mr Agba said.

He said six dead bodies have so far been recovered from the Naka-Adoka road attack while those that were injured are receiving treatment in different hospitals in the local government area.

“We have reported to the police and the security adviser. The security adviser and I went to where 14 people were killed to see things for ourselves,” Mr Agba stressed.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Catherine Anene, said the State Commissioner of Police, CP, Emmanuel Adesina, had gone to the areas for assessment and promised to update information on the development.
