UN Ambassador harps on better habitations, living conditions for Nigerians

United Nations, UN Habitat Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Raymond Edoh has called for the need to provide better habitations and living conditions in terms of housing for citizens of the country.

Edoh stated this yesterday during his conferment and endorsement of a Lifetime Fellow of the International Chartered World Learned Society, from a USA Based Global Institution on him in Abuja.

He said that poor habitation or living conditions was the cause of low development in many parts of the country stating that his office, will seek to create good habitats in collaboration with the United Nations and the Nigerian Government to provide good living conditions.

He said that, “From the last administration, we could not do much on habitation, but one of the things we worked on is providing mass housing scheme in Lagos State, and now we will work with Federal Government on how to introduce large housing scheme, to rebuild the country.”

He noted that because of the poor drainage systems, people have contacted diseases, and there was hope, to bringing portable water systems to such communities to save lives.

The youth leader who was also conferred with the Executive Order as Chief Adviser to the Society, tasked Nigerians to build on their culture, traditions and heritage, so as to build well defined lifestyles that will help to develop the society.

On the plights of the educational sector in the country, he said that there were areas to look at that will help to develop the system and using this award, and as partners with the UN, “we will work out plans to curtail these poor standards to its bearest minimum. We will not sleep over it, no matter what we face, I am assuring Nigerians and the society that we will put in place measures to make all of these a success.”

“We would make sure that many Nigerians are educated, especially the children living in many rural areas of the country ensuring that the remote communities with no education will have access to the educational system of the country. And using this award, I will swing into action to provide succour especially to the Nigerian children who don’t have a roof over their heads to learn,” the UN Ambassador said.

He further called on Nigerian youths, not to relent in their hopes of creating a better nation saying that, “Our hopes should be recreated in our various fields and professionalism to enable us grow the society thereby helping to solve the country’s problems and bring effective solutions. And this award will help me swing into action to provide such hopes. This award is to bring access access to education for Nigerian children, to reach out to the society to build greater heights and to support Nigeria and make sure the interest of the youths is captured in the international community. We will work closely with the educational sector to achieve this feat.”

Furthermore, Dr Edoh, who is a Human Capacity Developer, described leadership as a sacrifice, of taking the pains of others saying that, he promises to do better through the award by advocating for the country and for the general development of the Nigerian youth while also thanking the society for recognizing his efforts in promoting youth development and growth of the nation’s economy.

Also the Vice Chancellor, Crown University, Professor, Bashiru Aremu, noted that the conferment of the award on Dr Raymond Edoh was well deserving and a spur to continue in such efforts.

Meanwhile, in his goodwill message, Managing Director, ASQ, Samson Adeosun said that the Nigerian youths could be trained to better the country adding that the award was to support the country and ensure that the youths are captured in developmental processes.
