… As FG plans Co-operative Housing Scheme towards uplifting Corps standard

By Palma Ileye

Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has charged corps against any act of indiscipline and mismanagement of mandate while tasking them to maintain a high sense of responsibility, integrity, discipline, honesty and accountability in the discharge of the duties of your office.

Audi gave the charge yesterday in Abuja, at the event of the foundation laying and ground breaking ceremony of Co-operative Housing Schemes at the NSCDC Headquarters for its personnel.

He said that the Corps management has been very supportive of the activities and programmes of the Co-operative Society aimed at promoting and advancing the social and economic interest of its members.

He noted that the idea of the Co-operative House was in furtherance of staff welfare programmes aimed at enhancing the financial status of the corps society towards uplifting the standard of its members.

“This gigantic project was initiated in December 2021 by the present crop of Executives of the National Headquarters Cooperative Society. It is therefore delightful to note that the Cooperative Executives are beginning to live up to expectation and appear to be awake to their responsibilities of embarking on projects and programmes that could be of immense benefits to its members both in the short and long term, in tandem with the vision of the Corps Management under my watch.

“The idea of the Cooperative House is in furtherance of staff welfare programmes aimed at enhancing the financial status of the Cooperative Society towards uplifting the standard of its members. It is expected upon completion to increase the fortunes of the Cooperative Society and impact positively on the Corps welfare drive for its members, being an additional source of generating funds for its activities.

“The cooperative house is designed to accommodate such facilities as conference centres, event centres, shopping mall, guest house, gym and other recreational facilities/services that will be available for use not only by its members, but will also be open for use by the general public.

“The present administration with its charge on welfare has spurred the executives more on providing legacies that will continue to yield investments for members even at the end of its tenure. This has necessitate us to take the bulls by the horns by proposing to build this edifice for hospitality and provide security for its clients to boost the capital base of the Society.

“From bookings, to the airport, motor parks, railway stations to the hotel check in and customers itinerary round the city, the Cooperative House is designed and poised to provide security services on the go and create a different concept in service delivery in the hospitality industry.
As welfarism has been the hallmark of the Cooperative and return on investments kindly be assured that there is nothing impossible to achieve on your behalf based on our faith in God and resilience to fulfilling our mandate as custodians of your hard earned savings and investments. If we continue to do our bits in that order we shall soar higher and higher.

“While the Corps Management respects the independence of the Cooperative Society, we will not fold our arms and condone any act of indiscipline and mismanagement of resources placed under your care to the detriment of the welfare of your members.

“As Executives, you are expected to offer selfless services and not fritter away resources pooled together by members under your care. Let me remind you that you will be held accountable for your conduct in the course of your tenure as Executives of the Cooperative Society,” the CG said.

In his remarks, the Development Consultant, for designing and construction of the project, Messrs. Jubeb Engineering Services Nigeria Limited, represented by its Chief Executive, Dr. Adeola Badru, said each floor of the building with be name after the governors of 36 states including FCT.

In his remarks, Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, said Nigerian cannot be a coward to united nation security alert threats.

He said Nigerian can not allow anybody to scare us around that our country was not safe, stressing that, “Nigeria is safe”, Nigeria will continue to be safe, and we will continue to support our country.

According to him, “When the US announce the security alert, UK followed, Australia followed and people were being scared of coming to Abuja, in missiles.

“We had our first security meeting in order to address the issues because we cannot take issues of security lightly. But I encourage you, we can not be coward by anybody. Because of the issues in this country.

“Nigeria belongs to us. Nigeria is our only country. We must get off as members of the NSCDC and all the other security agencies in this country and defend our nation and don’t allow any criminals to overtake us. So nobody can scare us from coming to Abuja.

“But when you go out there to do your work as members of the NSCDC understand that you’re not only doing it as security of these NSCDC but also as people of Nigeria that you are doing it for your own children and grandchildren.

“So you should put your efforts and whatever it is in your sweat to defend this country and do not allow criminals to drag us into where we are. That is not what were supposed to be and we cannot continue to do that”.
