Interior Minister tasks academia to proffer solutions on societal ills

Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has called on Nigeria Academia to key into research that would enable it proffer solutions to socio-economic and security problems.

Tunji-Ojo in a press release issued by Ozoya Imohimi, Director, Press and Public Relations of the Ministry made the call in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the Management Team of the University of Abuja led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdul Rasheed Na’Allah.

He noted that their job does not end in just training but in research and development.

According to the Minister, it was through research that solution can be provided.

“Universities all over the world are not just meant to train people, they are meant to provide solutions to problems. Universities are meant to be repository of knowledge, where we can get solutions for both lingering and immediate problems,” he said.

Earlier, in his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdul Rasheed Na’Allah, informed the Minister that the University has a Centre for Migration Studies.

The Vice Chancellor said that the Centre was meant for conducting research that could assist the Government to formulate strategies and policies in identifying and solving migration and border issues.
