2022 Sports Festival: MOC scribe expresses confidence on Delta government completion of facilities

Secretary of the Main Organizing Committee of the 2022 National Sports Festival, Asaba 2022, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar has expressed confidence in the ability of the Delta State Government to complete all facilities for the games.

Alhaji Abubakar who is also the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, stated this when he paid an inspection visit to some of the facilities in Asaba.

The Permanent Secretary said the spate of work done at the facilities visited indicated the State Governments commitment to hosting a befitting National Sports Festival later in the year.

He said that Delta State had proven that it was the home of sports stressing that the quality of work done as well as the facilities were of international standard.

Alhaji Abubakar had visited the State Event Center, Saint Patrick’s College Asaba, Delta State Sports Commission Hostel beside Saint Brigid’s Grammar School, Asaba, as well as the Asaba Technical College, Grand Hotel and the Steven Keshi International Stadium, Asaba.

At the Event Center which is expected tohost Table Tennis Alhaji Abubakar described the center as spacious and ready for the Games while describing Saint Patrick’s College Football Pitch which is expected to host the Football events as ninety percent ready.

He commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his giant strides in infrastructural development, saying the Hostel accommodation at the Asaba Technical College was of a high quality while describing the on-going construction of the Indoor Sports Hall which will host Combat sports and other events as a welcomed development.

Also, the Executive Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa while expressing delight over Alhaji Abubakar’s comments asserted that the Local Organizing Committee will not rest on its oars but redouble its efforts towards delivering world class facilities for the Games.

Chief Okowa who is also the Co-Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, LOC, revealed that the facilities would be ready for final inspection in October as they hope to be ready before time.

Meanwhile, the Site Engineer at the on-going Indoor Sports Hall, Architect Chiyenlugo Ikejiakwu said the roofing of the hall would commence in four weeks time and would be completed before the end of July while block work would commence immediately.
