As he marks one year in office, the Management and Staff of National Broadcasting Commission, have felicitated with Director General of the commission, Mallam Balarabe Shehu Ilelah.
In a congratulatory message by the commission’s management, it said Ilelah, has on assumption in office, brought his wealth of experience into the running of the NBC.
They described him as a true leader who has turned the commission’s activities around through innovation and teamwork.
According to them, he started by paying visits to the 10 Zonal offices of the Commission, where he received first-hand information on the operations of the various Directorates and Departments, which gave him the leverage to kick start the National assignment.
“In between time, the Director General quickly struck a positive relationship with broadcast stakeholders, reenergized all participants in the Digital Switchover project and brought back hope to the process. Kano state was immediately switched unto the Digital Terrestrial Television platform.
“He cleverly explored viable avenues that are mutually beneficial to all stakeholders aimed at fast-tracking the operations of the DSO project and embarked on sensitization workshop trainings of broadcasters, Information officers and Set-top-Boxes equipment dealers.
“Mall. Ilelah, has also ensured that staff have conducive working atmosphere by providing the much-needed monitoring facilities and working tools. Retraining of staff was foremost in his agenda in his efforts at repositioning the commission,” read the message.
Also, in the course of carrying out the commission’s regulatory functions, the management noted that the DG has continued to stress on professionalism on the part of broadcasters.
“He frowns seriously at Broadcast stations allowing their platforms to be used for the propagation of Hate speeches and Fake News. The Director General implored Broadcasters to engender the unity, peace and progress of our dear country,” they added.
Ilelah, a veteran international broadcaster, was appointed DG of the commission on June 7, 2021 by President Muhamadu Buhari.
The management and staff of the NBC wished him many more fruitful and successful years, as he continues to carry out his regulatory duties.
