2023 Population Census: NPC Trains 774 Comptrollers On Critical Processes

NATIONAL Population Commission (NPC) on Wednesday said it has commenced nationwide training of the 774 Local Government Area offices’ Comptrollers as part of preparations towards ensuring a seamless conduct of the 2023 Population and Housing Census exercise.

A statement signed by Dr Isiaka Yahaya, Director, Public Affairs in the Commission in Lokoja said that the training would torch on critical processes in the workflow of the 2023 exercise.

Yahaya said that the practical-oriented training was focused on specific tasks and skills required of Comptrollers in the execution of their assignments towards accurate and reliable population and housing data.

He said that the purpose of the training was to equip Comptrollers with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their duties effectively and efficiently during the exercise scheduled to hold between March 29 and April 2, this year.

According to him, the three-day training spanning from 7th to 9th March 2023 was being conducted at different locations in two states in each of the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.

“All the 774 Comptrollers are being trained on the focal areas of the 2023 Census processes by the 60 Resource persons drawn from various departments of the Commission”, he said.

The topics include: Census Methodology; Presentation of the Census Frame & Locality List; Field Operations; Local Government Training (Supervisors and Enumerators); Data Quality Management; Monitoring and Evaluation;

Others are Enumeration of Special Populations; Enumeration in Hard-to-Reach areas; Recruitment & Payment; Tablets Management; ICT Infrastructure & Management; Training Centre Identification & Facilities; Training Centre Management; Census Logistics.

The rest include Census Security; Publicity and Advocacy; Identification and Assessment of Internet Connectivity Gaps; Green Census; Legal Framework for the 2023 Census and Administration of Oath of Secrecy; Sexual Exploitation, Harassment and Abuse; Census PES: Trial Census Experience; and the International Best Practice in Census Taking.

Yahaya said that the Commission was deeply committed to give the nation reliable and acceptable census data for evidence-based development planning.

He therefore, called on all Nigerians to support the Commission and present themselves to be counted during the 2023 Census exercise.
