Reps to wade into FG, Airlines face-ce-off

Following the decision of Emirate Airlines to suspend flights in and out of Nigeria, the leadership of the House of Representatives has resolved to intervene in the ongoing crisis in the nation’s aviation sector, with a view to resolving the face-off between the Federal Government and some international airline operators.

Consequently, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and the leadership of House of have been briefed on the disturbing notice of withdrawal of services recently issued by some International Airline operators in the country.

In his resolve to stop the crisis from escalating further, the Speaker has requested the Chairman, House Committee on Aviation, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, and House of Representatives Management to immediately set a date for a meeting with all stakeholders in the Aviation sector and the Executive Arm of government to find urgent solutions to the issues in contention.

Specifically, the Speaker has directed that a meeting to be attended by the Finance Minister, CBN Governor,
​Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business, ​Minister for AAviation DG, G NNCAA country Representative, IATA. ​Emirate Country Manager, ​Chairman, Aviation Committee, House of Representatives, Chairman, Banking & Currencyof the House of Representatives and the Chairman, Finance Committee of the House of Representatives be concerned as soon as possible.

The date of the meeting would be communicated to all the concerned Stakeholders and organisations in due course.

The Speaker has therefore requested all parties in the matter specifically the Emirates airlines to suspend any action and await the outcome of the meeting.

A statement signed by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria said the Speaker is also aware that the Executive Arm of Government is taking necessary steps to avert any crisis in the Aviation sector.
